Cultural Fascinations
Naga is a pilgrimage city. Naguenos are well devoted with big faith to our Ina Nuestra Senora de Penafrancia. It is one of the oldest city in the country because the Spaniards settled here first just like Cebu and Manila.

Naga Metropolitan Cathedral



The largest church in Bicol, it is considered to be the mother of all cathedrals in the region. With its official name “Naga Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist”, this cathedral is one of the oldest cathedrals in the Philippines. The original structure was built near the Naga River (the location of Naga’s bustling public market) but was destroyed by a strong earthquake in the 18th century.







Peñafrancia Basilica Minore



Construction on the home of the Nuestra Señora de Peñafrancia, dearly called by her devotees as “Ina”(Mother) started in 1981 and was completed in 1985. The original image sculpted in 1710 was commissioned by Fr. Miguel de Covarrubias who, after moving to the Philippines from Spain and surviving an illness after praying to Our Lady of Peñafrancia, devoted himself to the Virgin Mary. 







San Francisco Church

Constructed in the 17th century on the riverbank of Naga River which cuts through the city, this church’s infirmary and basement served as interrogation and torture halls of Filipinos who were arrested during the peak of the Filipino-Spanish War in 1898. For the colonial masters, the Church was used as a fortress refuging 500 people during the attacks of Filipino revolutionaries Elias Angeles and Felix Plazo in September 1898.





Peñafrancia Shrine


It is under the jurisdiction of the Ecclesiastical Province of the Archdiocese of Caceres. The church was formerly the home of the image of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, before the Peñafrancia Basilica was constructed. Our Lady of Peñafrancia is one of East Asia's greatest sites of Christian pilgrimage.










Quince Martires


It is the site where a monument that honors the 15 Martyrs of Bicol was built. It was on January 4, 1897 or barely 5 days after the National Hero – Dr. Jose P. Rizal – was executed when the 11 prisoners from Bicol were also executed on the same field in Bagumabayan (now Luneta). The four others had either died in prison due to severe torture or while in exile in the island of Fernando Poo, off the coast of Africa. The monument, which was located in the city’s Central Business District 1, was built on November 29, 1926.










Plaza de Nueva Caceres



Known as the Oragon Monument, is a monument constructed by the local government of Naga City to commemorate Naga City's long history, and its charter anniversaries. The monument depicts Nueva Caceres during the Spanish Period. The yearly foundation day of Nueva Caceres is held in the monument.

Panicuason Hot Spring Resort




One of Bicol’s secret hideaways. Located at the bottom of a forest river ravine accessible via a private road, this resort is smack at the center of the teeming rain forest of Mt. Isarog. Only 30 minutes away from downtown naga, the resort is a sight to behold, a virtual jungle paradise of ancient trees and giant ferns minus the wild animals. The resort is composed of several natural pools with temperatures ranging from a cold 20 degrees Celsius to a steaming 39 degrees Celsius.










Mount Isarog

A dormant volcano and a national park open for trekking and mountain biking. The peak of the mountain marks the point where the borders of five municipalities and one city meet (listed in clockwise direction, starting north): Goa, Tigaon, Ocampo, Pili, Naga City, and Calabanga. Mount Isarog was where local troops of the Philippine Army and Constabulary units and Bicolano guerrillas hide during the Japanese Period.








Naga City Ecology Park 


An ecological park located in Brgy. Pacol, at the foot of Mount Isarog. It is a five-hectare sprawl of tropical greenery, the park showcases various exotic plants, palms, an eco-walk maze, topiary garden, an orchid and mini-forest. Walkways, lawns, and pavilions provides for family picnics, stroll, and undisturbed appreciation of nature’s beauty.





Malabsay Falls






A waterfall near Mt. Isarog. It can be accessible through hiking in the Panicuason trail or through the Stonehouse Gardens Resort.

Plaza Rizal 



The oldest plaza and monument in Naga City. It is the centerpiece of the Rizal Park which was the former park of the old Camarines Sur Provincial Capitol. It has José Rizal and some angels in the monument. Majority of trade fairs held in the city are sometimes done in the plaza. The plaza is also adjacent to the Plaza Quezon.







Plaza Quezon


The largest plaza in Naga City. It is where the Regional Civic Parade, Voyadores Festival, Military Parade are done in September during the festivities of Our Lady of Peñafrancia. It is also where international artists and showbiz caravans are held when visiting the city.







BICOL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CENTRUM


The only LGU-operated science and technology one-stop educational attraction in the Bicol Region. It is a popular landmark visited every month by thousands of students, children and their parents on educational field trips. The facility features a computer gallery, a mini-science library and Sci-Art Cubbyhole for toddlers and preschoolers, complementing interactive exhibits that enhance learning and interest in sciences.






Jesse M. Robredo Coliseum

An indoor sporting arena. It is dubbed as the "The Big Dome of the South," being the second largest coliseum in the Philippines after the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Manila. It opened in August 2010 as Naga City Coliseum and has a maximum seating capacity of more than 12,000 spectators.The coliseum was renamed in honor of the late former Mayor of Naga City and DILG Sec. Jesse M. Robredo who died in the plane crash.






Ateneo de Naga University



A private and research university run by the Society of Jesus in Naga City. Typical of universities in the Philippines, AdNU has primary, secondary and tertiary levels which are coeducational. However, it was only in school year 2014-15 that the Ateneo de Naga opened its grade school.








Universidad de Sta. Isabel

A private Catholic Vincentian university owned and run by the Daughters of Charity. The school was opened on April 12, 1868. In Sept. 18, 1875, Colegio de Sta. Isabel became the first normal school for women in the Philippines and Southeast Asia under the name Escuela Normal de Maestras of Colegio de Sta. Isabel. Colegio de Sta. Isabel achieved its university status in August 2001, and was renamed Universidad de Sta. Isabel.






Naga City People's Mall


The largest public structure in Asia when it was constructed in the 1970′s, the Naga City People’s Mall (NCPM) houses thousands of stalls offering products ranging from fresh fish to souvenir items. It’s total floor area of 30,000 square meters, spread over three levels, is frequented by local shoppers. Local products and souvenir items are sold at competitive prices.







Sm Mall


A shopping mall owned and operated by SM Prime Holdings, the largest mall owner and operator in the Philippines. The mall is located in Central Business District II, Brgy. Triangulo, Naga City, It is the first SM Supermall in the Bicol Region and the first SM Supermall to open in 2009. The mall opened its doors to the public on May 1, 2009.








Naga City Sports Complex

This sports facility sprawling in the middle of vast greenery of Barangay Pacol, has Olympic-sized swimming pools, tennis courts, and a track oval shrouded by early morning mountain mist. It has hosted a number of local and national sports competitions including the yearly Palarong Pambansa.








Avenue Square

Bicol Region's first lifestyle center built in 2005 along Magsaysay Avenue. Avenue Square currently is one of the nightlife centers in the Bicol Region. There are also leisure hubs in the city, and majority are constructed along Magsaysay Avenue, since it is the center of nightlife in the Bicol Region.
